Tips for Proper Oral Care

Your teeth are a very indispensable part of your body.  It’s irreplaceable as well.  Sure, you can have denture fittings to replace lost teeth, but it won’t feel and look the same as real teeth.  It is then very important to take care of them on a regular basis.  Brushing is highly recommended as it maintains the cleanliness and freshness of the oral cavity, in addition to keeping your pearly whites in excellent condition.  Make sure that the toothbrush bristles remain erect and intact when you use it, or change it every two months.   Flossing helps in removing residue stuck between the teeth which cannot be reached with regular brushing.  Don’t forget to also have regular check-ups with your dentist after every six months in order to spot and treat cavities and plaque in their early stages.

For whiter teeth, add a dollop of bicarbonate soda, or rock salt into your toothpaste before brushing once a day, for ten days.  Don’t overdo it though, as the chemical reaction may wear your tooth’s enamel, and you’ll end up with weak or sensitive teeth.  Use an almond shell which is burnt and ground to a powder, rubbing it on the teeth to get rid of unsightly yellow stains.  You can also use regular rubbings of bay leaf on your teeth, at least three times a week, and you’ll see visible results within a month.  For a healthier remedy, munching vegetables and strawberries will achieve the same bleaching results which are promised by most commercial teeth whitening products.  These tips will also be useless unless you do away with drinking alcohol and too much coffee intake, and also excessive smoking.  The habits are not only bad for your teeth, but also does harm to your body.

The oral cavity is a viable breeding ground for bacteria, since it has the ideal temperature, and the food source is enough for them to efficiently multiply.  One of the main problems concerning the oral area is bad breath.  Now this may be caused by a lot of factors.  You may have tooth decay, or your tongue isn’t brushed properly, or you may have a medical condition or taking medication with such an adverse effect on your breath.  Unless the cause is of medical nature, you can easily get rid of foul breath by constant hydration, and by using a mouthwash every time you brush.  Tongue cleaners are also very effective in removing residue which a toothbrush cannot.  For natural ways of removing bad breath, try eating an unripe apple or any citrus fruit, or a cardamom in between meals; it cleanses the mouth and freshens it up.  A herbal gargle of boiled fenugreek leaves is also effective to this purpose, and you will observe an improvement after three days of use.  If after these measures your breath still emits a strange odor, consult your doctor; there may be an underlying cause behind it.
